National Assembly session to be held in last week of February

ISLAMABAD: The inaugural session of the recently elected National Assembly in Pakistan is slated to take place in the last week of February. The process of issuing notifications for the newly elected National Assembly members is expected to conclude by February 20.

Within three days of the notification issuance, the allocation of reserved seats will be determined. As per the constitutional requirement, the National Assembly session must be convened within 21 days after the election. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs will play a crucial role in this process by dispatching a summary for the upcoming session.

The President will officially summon the National Assembly session based on the advice and recommendation of the Prime Minister, marking a pivotal step in the democratic proceedings. Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is slated to preside over the inaugural session, during which the newly elected members will solemnly take the oath of office, pledging to uphold their responsibilities to the nation.

On the session’s initial day, the schedule for the speaker and deputy speaker’s offices will be formally issued, setting the administrative groundwork for the legislative term. Following this, the election for the speaker and deputy speaker will be conducted through a secret ballot, emphasizing transparency and democratic principles in the selection process.

Once the speaker and deputy speaker positions are filled, the schedule for the election of the Leader of the House will be announced. This election, notably, will involve a division, showcasing the democratic decision-making process.

The upcoming National Assembly session holds significance not only in terms of initiating legislative activities but also in forming the leadership structure vital for the effective functioning of the parliamentary system. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the session will provide a platform for elected representatives to address critical issues and set the course for the country’s future governance.
