New IHC Bench to Hear Plea Against Imran Khan in Tyrian White Case on May 21

Tyrian White Case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has convened a new bench to address a disqualification case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan concerning his alleged failure to disclose his purported daughter, Tyrian White, in the nomination papers submitted for the 2018 general elections, on Saturday.

Comprising Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Arbab Mohammad Tahir, and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, the bench is scheduled to hear the case on May 21.

This case has been in limbo since May 2023 when a three-member bench initially overseeing the proceedings was dissolved by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq. The decision followed the uploading of two judges’ opinions regarding the plea’s maintainability on the court’s website.

Although the bench, headed by IHC CJ Aamer Farooq, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, had reserved the verdict on March 30 last year, the opinions of Justice Kayani and Justice Tahir questioning the petition’s maintainability were uploaded to the court’s official website without the signature of the bench head.

With the formation of a new bench, IHC CJ Justice Aamer Farooq has recused himself, while Justice Tahir, who had previously deemed the petition non-maintainable, remains part of the new bench.

The case revolves around allegations by petitioner Mohammad Sajid that Imran Khan omitted to disclose his alleged daughter Tyrian in his nomination papers for the 2018 general elections, thereby providing incorrect information to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The petitioner further claimed that Khan concealed Tyrian’s existence and did not marry her mother, Sita White, due to financial considerations.

The petition also cited a California court’s judgment confirming Khan as Tyrian’s father and alleged that Khan initially participated in the proceedings but withdrew after being asked to undergo a blood test.
