NDMA: 11 dead, 172 houses damaged

On Thursday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) released a detailed report on the damages and losses caused by the recent 6.8-magnitude earthquake that hit the country’s northern parts.

The earthquake resulted in 11 deaths, 79 injuries, and damage to 172 houses in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The NDMA, following the earthquake that originated in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan, issued an initial situation report.

However, after receiving feedback from local administrations, district disaster management authorities (DDMAs), and departments, respective provincial authorities submitted detailed reports.

According to the reports, all 11 deaths occurred in K-P, with six males, three females, and two children among the deceased.

The injuries were mostly reported in K-P, with 32 females, as many males, and 13 children affected.

In addition, the disaster caused injuries to two males in Punjab.

According to the damage assessment, the disaster affected a total of 172 houses, with 147 of them suffering partial damage and 22 completely destroyed in K-P.

Additionally, one house suffered partial damage in G-B, and two houses suffered partial damage in AJK.

The reports also indicated the death of 19 animals, with 17 in K-P and two in AJK.

NDMA chairman directed all departments and authorities to conduct ground verification and submit detailed reports to verify the already submitted reports.

In K-P, the disaster partially damaged four schools and many other buildings.
