Mustafa Kamal, a leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), has affirmed the legitimacy of an audio recording circulating on social media, triggering controversy and speculation regarding internal party discussions.
In an official statement, Kamal acknowledged that the voice in the recording was indeed his own. He clarified the context, explaining that the audio captured him updating the MQM Coordination Committee on ongoing talks with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party.
According to Kamal, the leaked audio exposes him expressing concerns about the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stance towards MQM. He alleged that the PPP has publicly discredited their mandate as “fake,” airing this opinion on television channels.
Kamal further claimed that the audio records him discussing the alleged communication between PPP and PML-N, suggesting that the former informed the latter that “the numbers are complete,” implying that MQM’s presence was deemed unnecessary.
However, Kamal stressed that the information disclosed in the audio itself is not newsworthy. He argued that the true revelation lies in the presence of “MQM London people” within the coordination committee, indicating that individuals loyal to the MQM London faction still wield influence.
He concluded by stating, “Now we know who is ‘Ghus Bathiya’ (the mole) we were waiting for a long time,” implying that the leaked audio serves as conclusive evidence. He further accused MQM London of releasing the recording earlier that morning.
