Terrorists

In the backdrop of escalating terror attacks, 2023 emerged as a devastating year for Pakistan, witnessing the loss of over 1,000 lives, including civilians and security forces officials, while 566 terrorists were killed. Security forces responded with vigor, conducting a staggering 18,736 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) nationwide. These operations resulted in the elimination of 566 terrorists, with 5,161 arrests reported, according to a comprehensive report.

The report underscored the authorities’ commitment to fortifying national defense and security against terrorism, emphasizing timely actions taken against terrorists. Notably, the document revealed the involvement of Afghanistan-based terrorists in attacks against Pakistani nationals on home soil.

Efforts of intelligence agencies led to the surrender of key figures, including Gulzar Imam alias Shambay and Sarfraz Ahmed Bungulzai, commanders of the banned Baloch National Army. In Balochistan alone, 15,063 IBOs were conducted, resulting in the death of 109 terrorists.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 1,942 IBOs led to 447 terrorist casualtiesā€”the highest among the provinces. Punjab witnessed 190 IBOs, Gilgit-Baltistan 14, and Sindh 1,987, resulting in additional terrorist eliminations.

Tragically, more than 1,000 Pakistanis fell victim to terror attacks, including around 260 officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army, along with numerous civilians. Despite these losses, the report acknowledged the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s forces and people in the ongoing war against terrorism. The commitment to transforming the country into a haven of peace remained steadfast, offering hope for future peace and stability.

Looking ahead, the report outlined a continued and resolute effort by security forces and law enforcement agencies in the coming year, promising a new dimension in the fight against terrorism. The collective determination of Pakistan’s forces and the support of the people are envisioned as essential components in the ongoing battle against terrorism, with the goal of eliminating the last terrorist.
