The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced the likelihood of increased heavy rain and snowfall in various regions of the country from January 31 to February 4.
As per the Met Office, a westerly wave is impacting the nation and is anticipated to persist until February 4, potentially leading to flash floods in Balochistan on February 2 and 3.
The Met Office stated, “Rain, accompanied by isolated heavy falls and snowfall in hilly areas, is anticipated in several regions including Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Chagi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Panjgur, Kharan, Noushki, Washuk, Mastung, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Qila Saifullah on February 2 and 3.”
Moreover, moderate to heavy rain and snowfall in mountainous areas are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar until February 4.
In Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur, there are forecasts for such weather conditions from Jan 31 to Feb 4, with occasional breaks.
The Met Office also predicts moderate to heavy rain and snowfall in the hills of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan until Feb 4, interspersed with occasional pauses.
Similarly, Murree and Galliyat are expected to experience rain with snow until Feb 1 and on Feb 3 and 4 with intermittent breaks.
Light to moderate rain is anticipated in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, the Pothohar region, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sahiwal, and Okara until Feb 4.
The Met Office has forecasted light to moderate rain in Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jacobabad, and Kashmore on Feb 2 and 3, while the rest of the province is expected to have cold and partly cloudy weather.
