LHC suspends detention

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the detention of PTI President Parvez Elahi under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. The court ordered his immediate release.

Former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi has challenged his arrest under MPO in Islamabad High Court.

He pleaded with the court to strike down his arrest under MPO and order his immediate release.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court also issued a contempt of court proceedings notice to the IG Police Islamabad for arresting Elahi.

Parvez Elahi challenges his re-arrest: LHC suspends detention

Meanwhile, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the former Punjab chief minister, challenged his detention under the MPO. Parvez Elahi, through his lawyer Abdul Raziq, submitted a petition to the Islamabad High Court.

In the petition, he seeks the cancellation of his arrest under the MPO on Friday, right after the court granted him bail and instructed authorities not to apprehend him in any other case.

The petition alleged that the PTI president is being singled out for political retribution.

It requested the court to declare the MPO order from September 1 as illegal, nullify it, and order the release of Parvez Elahi.

Contempt Petition Filed due to Alleged Violation of Court Orders

Parvez Elahi’s wife has filed a contempt of court petition in the Lahore High Court. She alleges that the authorities did not transfer her husband home safely despite court orders.

The petition names the DIG operations, DIG investigation, and SP high court security as parties involved. Qaisara Elahi, the former chief minister’s wife, filed it and has requested the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court to schedule a hearing for the petition today.

The petitioner has argued that the police officers assigned to ensure Parvez Elahi’s safe return home failed to do so, despite the court’s order.

She is urging the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the DIG operations and DIG investigation.

After the Lahore High Court had released him in a corruption case, authorities promptly re-arrested Parvez Elahi, the PTI president, and former chief minister. They subsequently transferred Elahi to Attock Jail on Friday.

The Islamabad police apprehended Elahi on Lahore’s Canal Road as he was en route to his residence following the court’s release order. According to the police , they arrested him under Section 3 of the MPO (Maintenance of Public Order).

Earlier on Friday, the Lahore High Court instructed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to release Elahi and barred his arrest in any ongoing or future cases.
