‘Not on grounds, not even on roads’: KPK University bans mixed gatherings of students:

Gomal University, which is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, has specifically prohibited mixed student meetings on university premises in order to avoid any “untoward incidence.”

According to a notification issued by the KPK varsity:

“It is notified for all the concerned that gathering/coupling (Male & Female) is totally Banned on any ground, roads, etc. beyond the premises of the department.”

The university also cautioned “female students” to be careful and cautious in their departments’ common areas and in their classes.

The Varsity warned:

“Strict action would be taken against those students, violating the rules.”

According to the university management:

The decision would assist in creating a better and safer atmosphere for female students.

It is worth noting that the university fined two students at the Institute of Computing and Information Technology (ICIT) Department Rs 5,000 last year for listening to music in class.

According to the chairman of the ICIT Department:

The two students were using a Bluetooth speaker in a university classroom.

Chairman said that their action  “disturbed the classes ongoing in the department at the time”.

The chairman further added:

“Both students were warned multiple times to stop [the music] and were fined when they did not pay heed to the requests.”
