KP Chief Minister Warns of WAPDA Office Takeover Amid Federal Government Dispute

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur issued a stern warning to the federal government, demanding the immediate payment of Rs50 billion in overdue funds within the next two months. In a forceful address delivered in the KP assembly on Friday, Gandapur underscored that he was granting the federal government a mere 15 days to engage in dialogue with him on the matter.

Expressing growing impatience with the federal government’s perceived reluctance, Chief Minister Gandapur hinted at the possibility of resorting to more assertive measures, including the potential takeover of WAPDA offices in the province if necessary actions were not taken promptly. He emphasized that the KP government could not indefinitely rely on appeals and would be compelled to act decisively if left with no other recourse.

Drawing attention to recent protests in Azad Kashmir, Gandapur warned that similar unrest in KP could expose the government’s vulnerabilities. He highlighted the critical role of addressing the province’s grievances to maintain stability and harmony.

In a direct challenge to WAPDA and the federal government, Gandapur denounced electricity theft, alleging complicity from WAPDA officials. He demanded accountability and asserted that such illicit practices must be curtailed immediately.

Furthermore, Gandapur lamented the significant shortfall in funds allocated to KP by the federal government, emphasizing that the province was owed Rs300 billion less than what was rightfully due. He reiterated the obligation of the federal government to disburse Rs92 billion in surplus revenue to KP in accordance with IMF conditions.

In closing, Gandapur decried the characterization of his demands as ‘irresponsible,’ reaffirming his unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights and interests of his province.
