Karachi Police Foils Terrorist Plot: Two RAW-Linked Suspects Apprehended

Two individuals with links to the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) were apprehended during a targeted operation conducted by police and intelligence agencies in Karachi, as confirmed by Korangi Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hasan Sardar on Monday.

The joint operation, involving Korangi police and intelligence personnel, successfully thwarted a significant terrorist plot aimed at the metropolis, SSP Sardar stated. The arrested suspects were found in possession of two hand grenades, a 9mm pistol, and ammunition.

Sardar elaborated that the detained terrorists were engaged in reconnaissance activities for targets identified by foreign entities. These individuals would transmit gathered images and information abroad and receive substantial sums of money from foreign bank accounts for their efforts.

Instances of Indian infiltration into Pakistani territory for intelligence and terrorist purposes have been documented in the past, underscoring the seriousness of such activities. Earlier this year, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Syrus Qazi revealed evidence of India’s involvement in extra-territorial and extra-judicial killings on Pakistani soil.

This revelation gained further validation through a report, detailing the Indian government’s alleged directive to carry out killings on foreign soil. According to intelligence sources cited in the report, New Delhi has pursued a policy of targeting individuals perceived as hostile to India outside its borders.

Relations between Islamabad and New Delhi have been strained by historical grievances and territorial disputes, exacerbated by incidents such as the arrest of spy Kulbushan Yadav in 2016 and the revocation of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in 2019. The latter move considered a breach of international law, led to a breakdown in diplomacy and trade between the neighboring countries.

Pakistan has consistently tied the normalization of relations with India to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. Allegations of RAW’s involvement in overseas assassinations, purportedly sanctioned by the office of Prime Minister Modi, have further complicated efforts to mend bilateral ties.
