KARACHI: A man in Karachi has been apprehended by police for groping a woman in broad daylight. The arrest followed the circulation of CCTV footage capturing the incident on social media and news channels.
The occurrence unfolded in Pak Colony, where the woman was walking along an empty street. The perpetrator approached her from behind, groped her, and swiftly fled the scene. The CCTV footage depicted the man wearing a blue t-shirt, a cap, and sporting a beard.
With the assistance of the video, law enforcement successfully located and detained the suspect. Nonetheless, authorities await the woman’s formal complaint to proceed with legal action.
Meanwhile, expressing concern over the escalating incidents of muggings and homicides in Karachi, a senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan has urged for a crackdown on street criminals and hinted at the party’s withdrawal from the coalition government if innocent lives continue to be lost.
Former federal minister and Senator Faisal Subzwari emphasized the urgency for action, citing over 50 fatalities due to street crime in the past three months. He criticized the lack of decisive measures against perpetrators, highlighting the disparity in responses compared to other regions facing similar challenges. Subzwari urged federal and provincial authorities to address the surge in street crime promptly.
In response to Senator Subzwari’s remarks, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah acknowledged the unsatisfactory state of law and order in Karachi. He outlined measures being implemented to combat street crime and kidnapping in the riverine areas.
Despite admitting past shortcomings, CM Shah assured ongoing efforts to rectify the situation. He cited previous successful initiatives to curb street crime and pledged continued efforts to tackle criminal activities effectively.
