PESHAWAR: Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim assumed the position of Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) after taking the oath on Saturday.
The oath-taking ceremony, held at the PHC, saw Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Ghulam Ali administering the oath to Justice Ibrahim. Among the attendees were KP Chief Minister Gandapur, several judges, and a large number of lawyers.
The Ministry of Law and Justice announced on Thursday the appointment of Justice Ibrahim as the chief justice of PHC, elevating him from his previous role as acting chief justice.
Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim has a notable legal career, having been appointed as an additional judge of the PHC on August 11, 2016, and subsequently confirmed to the position on June 1, 2018. Before his judicial appointments, he held key roles such as additional advocate general and special prosecutor general at the National Accountability Bureau.
His contributions to the legal fraternity extend beyond the courtroom, as he has also served as secretary general and president of the High Court Bar Association, showcasing his commitment to upholding the principles of justice and the rule of law.
Meanwhile, at a full-court reference held in his honor ahead of his retirement on April 14, outgoing Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ibrahim Khan reflected on his tenure with pride and integrity. He recounted the challenges and achievements of his 31-year-long judicial career, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to justice and impartiality.
Justice Ibrahim’s legacy is marked by his emphasis on amicable dispute resolution, particularly in family cases, and his efforts in addressing human rights applications. His tenure also saw significant contributions to high-profile cases, including the commission to probe the Army Public School massacre, where he demonstrated leadership and diligence.
As he passes the torch to his successor, Justice Ibrahim offers his blessings and best wishes, urging continued dedication to the principles of justice and compassion.
