LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: In a tragic incident, Alamgir Tareen, brother of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) chief Jahangir Tareen, took his own life by shooting himself in the head.
Alamgir Tareen’s family members confirmed this shocking news on Thursday.
Initially, police sources revealed that Alamgir, 63, had allegedly committed suicide at his residence located in Lahore’s Gulberg area. Later, Jahangir Tareen confirmed these reports.

Jahangir Tareen was in a meeting with his party (IPP) leaders in Lahore when he was informed about the tragic news. He left the party meeting and rushed to the residence of his brother in Lahore.
Authorities stated that more information would be available once they had a chance to investigate the crime scene.
Subsequently, police officials disclosed that Alamgir had left a handwritten suicide note, citing an undisclosed illness as the reason for his self-harm.
However, friends of the deceased claimed that he had never mentioned his illness to them before.
According to the family, Alamgir was unmarried but was scheduled to marry his fiancée in December of this year.
Alamgir had a notable profile: He was the owner of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, Multan Sultans. He had earned recognition as a prominent businessman in South Punjab and operated one of the largest water purification plants in the country.
Alamgir completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley, and later pursued a master’s degree from the esteemed Yale University.
According to the official website of the Multan Sultans, Alamgir was described as “a passionate sports enthusiast dedicated to establishing a strong platform for aspiring sportsmen and sportswomen, and providing them with the best possible resources to enhance their skills.” He played a pivotal role in implementing the data-driven approach adopted by the cricket franchise.
