ISLAMABAD: Mobile services will be suspended in Islamabad on 9 and 10th Muharram due to security reasons. Interior ministry wrote a letter to PTA regarding this matter.
The interior ministry addressed a letter to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), instructing the shutdown of mobile services in Islamabad.
The cellular services will remain suspended in G-6 and G-7 sectors of Islamabad from 1 pm to 10 pm on 9th Muharram. On the same day, authorities will suspend mobile services in I-8 and adjoining sectors from 6 pm to 6 pm.
On Muharram 11th, the authorities will shut down the cellular servicefrom 2 pm to 7 pm in Shah Allah Ditta. The authorities will shut the services down from 12 pm to 7 pm in Bari Imam Noorpur Shah.
The letter to PTA stated that mobile services in Islamabad would be suspended on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The decision is based on the Chief Commissioner’s recommendations.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) imposed section 144 in Islamabad to ensure peace and security during Muharram-ul-Haram.
The notification bans the use of loudspeakers, display of arms, fireworks, distribution or printing of hateful contents, wall-chalking, and stone crushing in Islamabad.
Amid security concerns in Muharram-ul-Haram, Islamabad police have also prohibited the entry of motorcycles in the Red Zone.
It is important to mention that the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced the observance of Youm-e-Ashur (Muharram 10) on July 29 (Saturday), as the moon has been sighted.

Meanwhile, mobile services are being affected at different times in some areas, as consumers have complained. Some areas are facing complete shutdowns.
The affected areas with either suspended or partially suspended mobile services include Steel Town, Gulshan-e-Hadid, Jaffer e Tayar Society, Malir 15, Future Colony, Dawood Chowrangi, and Haji Zakaria Goth. Additionally, services are partially suspended in Shah Latif Town, Bhitaiabad, Memon Goth Main Market, Bin Qasim Town, and other areas.
