Islamabad High Court orders the release of PTI leaders Shirin Mazari and Senator Falak Naz

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court ordered forthwith the release of two female PTI leaders _ Shirin Mazari and Senator Falak Naz.

Both were arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order on Sunday. The court, however, suspended the arrests of both PTI women leaders under the MPO-3.

Shirin Mazari is the former federal minister for human rights and Falak Naz is a PTI Senator. The court observed that the police did not submit adequate records in the court to validate the arrests of Shirin Mazari and Senator Falak Naz.

Anti-Terrorism Court rejects remand of Dr. Yasmin Rashid

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore today rejected the request of the police to grant the physical remand of PTI leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid. The court rejected her remand on the basis of her medical condition.

The directed police to shift Dr Yasmin Rashid to the Police Lines Hospital. The court also asked the investigating officer to provide relevant records in the court.

The United States condemns violence, supports peaceful protests

The United States State Department spokesman Vedat Patel said that arrests of the PTI leaders and supporters should be in accordance with the law.

The US State Department spokesperson commented on this in the wake of arrests of PTI workers and leaders for their alleged role in violent protests which erupted soon after the arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan on May 9 in the Al-Qadir Trust mega corruption case.

Addressing a weekly press briefing on Monday, Patel said the US believed in non-violent protests.

He stated that the government and private properties should have not been damaged during the protests. He, nonetheless, said the US stance on access to information, and press freedom is clear.
