ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Monday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Murad Saeed, Hammad Azhar, and Farrukh Habib as absconders in two cases related to the attack on the Judicial Complex.
ATC Judge Tahir Zafar Supra presided over the hearing of the case, which was registered at Ramna police station. Noting the continuous absence of the accused, the court formally declared them absconders and issued arrest warrants for other missing suspects, including Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi and Raja Basharat. The hearing was adjourned until April 7.
Judicial Complex Attacks
The case stems from incidents on March 1 and March 18, 2023, when PTI workers allegedly stormed the Judicial Complex during party founder Imran Khan’s court appearances.
On March 1, PTI supporters reportedly forced their way into the premises, vandalizing property and clashing with security personnel. Authorities arrested 29 individuals, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police officers and Khan’s private security guards.
A second incident occurred on March 18, during Khan’s appearance in the Toshakhana case, when PTI workers again breached the complex.
Additionally, a case has been registered at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station against Imran Khan, PTI President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, and several other party leaders in connection with the riots.
