Hearing on £190 Million Reference Against Imran Khan Adjourned to June 11

The hearing of the £190 million reference against PTI founder Imran Khan has been adjourned until June 11, following objections raised by the PTI founder’s legal team regarding the appointment of the new judge, Muhammad Ali Waraich.

Barrister Salman Safdar, representing the PTI founder, argued that the notification issued by the Law Ministry regarding the appointment of Judge Muhammad Ali Waraich is invalid. Safdar further contended that according to procedural rules, a judge from Court No. 1 cannot preside over cases in Court No. 2 under additional charges.

In response, the prosecution team also presented their arguments concerning the appointment of the new judge. The court has deferred its decision on the objections raised by the defense lawyers, with a verdict expected on June 11.

Due to these procedural disputes, no witness statements were recorded or cross-examined during the hearing. Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Ali Waraich presided over the session, which convened in Adiala Jail.

The adjournment of the hearing underscores the complexities involved in legal proceedings, particularly in cases of significant magnitude such as this £190 million reference. It highlights the meticulous scrutiny and adherence to legal procedures essential for ensuring a fair and just trial.

While the adjournment may prolong the legal process, it underscores the importance of upholding the principles of justice and procedural fairness in all aspects of the judicial system, particularly in high-profile cases with substantial implications.

Additionally, the adjournment provides both the defense and prosecution with an opportunity to further prepare their arguments and evidence for the upcoming proceedings. It allows for thoroughly examining legal complexities and ensures that all parties have ample time to present their case effectively.

While delays in legal proceedings can be frustrating, they are an integral part of the judicial process aimed at upholding the principles of fairness and due process. As the case progresses, it will be essential for all involved to adhere to the rule of law and uphold the integrity of the legal system, ultimately working towards a just resolution.
