Governor Sindh approves
KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori approved the name of Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar as the caretaker chief minister of Sindh on Tuesday.
Governor Sindh gave approval on the recommendation of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and the opposition leader Ansar Rana.
Both leaders recommended the name of Baqar to the Governor of Sindh for his appointment as the caretaker chief minister of Sindh province.
Earlier, on August 12th, 13th, and 14th, a consultative process occurred between the Chief Minister of Sindh and the Opposition Leader under Article 224(1A).
Following this process, both leaders reached an agreement to propose Justice Maqbool Baqar’s name as the caretaker Chief Minister.
PPP leader Murtaza Wahab shared this information through X platform. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah will hand over the government to the caretaker chief minister after Maqbool Baqar takes oath.

Furthermore, the MQM-P spokesperson confirmed that the party has endorsed Justice (retd) Baqar’s name as the interim Chief Minister. This endorsement took place during a Rabita Committee meeting. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui chaired the meeting.
Importantly, there were no objections from the MQM regarding Justice Maqbool Baqar’s nomination for the interim Chief Minister position.
Ansar, a representative of the MQM, addressed the media outside the CM Office. She expressed contentment with the agreement on Maqbool Baqar’s name through mutual consultation. The opposition leader also affirmed their lack of objections to Justice Baqar’s name. Additionally, she highlighted the completion of the process ahead of the August 14 deadline.
In addition, Ansar explained that although it took time to reach a consensus on a suitable candidate, they have finalized Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar’s name for the interim Chief Minister slot. Ansar also indicated that the subsequent steps involve issuing a notification and conducting the swearing-in ceremony.
Evidently, these developments are tied to political consultations and appointments in the Sindh province of Pakistan.
