A challenging 10-hour rescue operation successfully located and brought to safety two foreign tourists who had gone missing while skiing in the snow-covered Shogran-Siri Paye region.
According to the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA), the tourists were skiing at Siri Paye when they inadvertently strayed toward Makra Peak, losing their way in the mountainous terrain. With heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures setting in, their situation became increasingly precarious.
As soon as the incident was reported, a coordinated search and rescue mission was launched involving the KDA, local police, and tourism police. The teams braved severe weather conditions and treacherous paths to locate the missing tourists.
Officials confirmed that the duo was found near the base camp of Makra Peak, where they had spent the night exposed to extreme cold. Despite the harsh conditions, both were in stable condition when found. Rescuers provided them with initial medical assistance and warm clothing before transporting them safely back to Shogran.
Authorities emphasized the importance of tourists adhering to designated skiing areas and avoiding unmarked trails, especially in regions prone to sudden weather changes. The KDA has urged visitors to remain cautious and seek guidance from local guides to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Local officials commended the swift response and teamwork of all involved in the operation, highlighting their commitment to ensuring the safety of tourists in Pakistan’s scenic northern regions.
