Fiery Victory Speech: KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur Calls for CEC’s Resignation

Victory Speech

PESHAWAR: Soon after securing victory as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur delivered a passionate victory speech on Friday. He demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, accusing him of playing a role in stealing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) mandate in the February 8 general elections.

Gandapur, who contested as an independent candidate from KP, defeated PML-N’s Dr Ibadullah Khan with 90 votes against 16. Addressing KP lawmakers, Gandapur pledged to fulfill the expectations of PTI’s founder and criticized the alleged injustice faced by the party under any fascism.

He called for a free and fair trial for Imran Khan, emphasizing the need for a system that cannot be abused. Gandapur expressed concerns about the election symbol being taken from them and restrictions on raising voices for Kashmir.

The newly-elected CM discussed the February 8 elections, urging authorities to restore their mandate. He criticized the rejection and subsequent restoration of PTI leaders’ papers, demanding the withdrawal of FIRs against female PTI candidates and proposing a judicial commission on the May 9 incident.

Gandapur assured that he would not engage in corruption and vowed to focus on increasing the province’s revenue. He emphasized providing property rights, free legal assistance to women, and investment in trade and business development for job creation.

The CM pledged health cards for the people from the first day of Ramadan and announced plans for a commission for overseas Pakistanis.

Gandapur’s nomination by Imran Khan had positioned him as the PTI candidate for KP’s leader of the house. He chose to contest independently after refusing to join the Sunni Ittehad Council, which PTI-backed independent winners had joined to claim their seats.

Formerly a federal minister for Kashmir affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Gandapur served during the PTI government from October 2018 to April 2022.

The maiden session of the KP Assembly witnessed the oath-taking of newly-elected lawmakers, followed by the election of PTI-backed Babar Saleem Swati and Suriya Bibi as speaker and deputy speaker.
