Family Statement Clarifies Circumstances of Alleged Assault by Security Guard at Gulberg College

A statement from the father and uncle of a girl who was allegedly assaulted by a security guard at a private college in Gulberg has emerged, clarifying the incident’s circumstances.

In a video shared on the social media platform ‘X,’ Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi stood alongside the girl’s family. The father claimed that recent protests in support of his daughter were unfounded, explaining, “Our daughter slipped at home and injured her back, which resulted in her being admitted to the ICU.”

In the video, both the father and uncle, their faces masked, asserted that “there has been no sexual assault” on their daughter. They expressed surprise at the protests and urged the public to consider the emotional distress families face in such situations. “Those who have daughters can understand this pain,” the father added.

ASP Naqvi addressed the community, urging them to refrain from spreading misinformation that could cause further distress. She emphasized that the police would take appropriate action if a crime were reported, stating, “If such an incident occurs, the police will certainly register a case.”

She highlighted the necessity of verified information for filing a case, cautioning against unverified claims that could disrupt public order. Naqvi reassured the community that the Punjab Police treats crimes against women, children, and vulnerable individuals with the utmost seriousness.

The Punjab police have dismissed allegations related to the supposed rape of a private college student, asserting that “there is no victim” connected to the claims that sparked violent protests in Lahore the previous day. A group of students had gathered outside the college in response to rumors of the alleged assault, leading to clashes with police that resulted in injuries to at least 28 individuals.

Although the protest was temporarily suspended, plans were made to resume the demonstration. The police had arrested a security guard accused of the assault and initiated an investigation; however, the suspect denied the allegations, and no evidence has been found to support them.
