ISLAMABAD: Director-General of the ISPR Lt-General Babar Iftikhar and DG ISI Lt-General Nadeem Anjum are holding a press conference at this time to share with public some facts surrounding the murder of famous TV anchorperson Arshad Sharif.
Arshad Sharif was murdered in Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday night and today his funeral will be performed at Faisal Masjid at 2pm and he will be buried in H-11 graveyard in Islamabad.
It was a joint press conference of Director General of ISI Lt-General Nadeem Anjum and DG ISPR Lt-General Babar Iftikhar.
Lt-Gen. Babar Iftikhar said the purpose of today’s media talk was to throw light on the killing of journalist TV anchorperson Arshad Sharif in Kenya and the facts surrounding it.
He said that this press conference was being held in the context of presenting facts so that “facts, fiction and opinion can be differentiated”, he said.
DG ISPR also said that it was necessary to determine the factors due to which a particular narrative is being built and people are being misled.
“The chief of army staff was also targeted and faced criticism while an attempt was made to create a divide in society.”
He said that Sharif’s death was an “unfortunate incident” and called him an “icon of journalism in Pakistan”. He noted that members of the late journalist’s family had served in the army, adding that he always felt the pain of martyred officers.
