PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has issued a ban on KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi’s residence at the KP House in Islamabad, marking a new chapter of discord between two pivotal figures in the province.
The KP government spokesperson, Barrister Saif, declared on Wednesday that the section designated for the governor at the KP House has been nullified. This resolution was reached during the latest session of the provincial cabinet.
“The provincial cabinet encountered a challenge concerning accommodations for ministers and assembly members during their stays in the federal capital. Currently, the Governor’s Annex will be utilized by provincial assembly members and ministers,” Saif explained.
He further mentioned that alternative housing arrangements are underway for the KP governor. “In the meantime, the governor is advised to reside at Sindh House without any dismay. Additionally, the governor possesses multiple residences in Islamabad, ensuring no shortage of lodging for him,” he elaborated.
Sources reveal that the governor’s possessions have been relocated from the KP House premises, with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur duly informing the relevant staff.
Meanwhile, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, addressing the media, asserted that the closure of the governor’s annex in the KP House is unconstitutional. He affirmed his stance of not imposing any restrictions on the Chief Minister’s access to the Governor House.
“We will engage in political battles within the political arena,” he emphasized. During a public rally on Friday, Chief Minister Gandapur, representing the PTI, cautioned the federal government against implementing governor’s rule in the province, asserting his party’s readiness to assume control of the Governor House if needed.
In response to CM Gandapur’s warning, Kundi emphasized on Saturday that he holds a constitutional position and is prepared to defend it against any potential intrusion.
“If Ali Amin Gandapur intends to storm the Governor House, he should be aware that we are prepared to take necessary measures to safeguard it,” the governor asserted during a public gathering.
Kundi ridiculed Gandapur for evading confrontation in the past, remarking that while there might be an expressway in Islamabad for him to escape, in K-P, he would face public disapproval.
Belonging to the PPP, the governor cautioned the chief minister to mind his language. “The response will be reciprocal to the language used in the future,” he warned.
In response to the governor’s remarks during a court appearance in DI Khan on the same day, the CM advised the governor to abstain from political discourse if he truly respects his constitutional position.
“Otherwise, as the CM, I will withdraw grants, vehicles, and fuel allocations from the Governor House and designate it as a historical heritage site, open to the public for free,” he asserted. Both Faisal Karim Kundi and Ali Amin Gandapur hail from the Dera Ismail Khan district of KP.
