Wildfire Devastates National Park in Azad Kashmir’s Kotli

KOTLI: A wildfire in Azad Kashmir’s Naar, Kotli forest has engulfed the National Park, with no relief operation initiated even after 24 hours. The fire has ravaged approximately eight kilometers of the forest, causing severe breathing problems due to the smoke in nearby localities.

Area residents have expressed frustration, alleging that each year, forests in Azad Kashmir are set on fire, yet the administration has consistently failed to take preventive measures.

The lack of action has left the community vulnerable and fearful for their safety and health. Residents are calling for immediate intervention and long-term solutions to prevent such devastating incidents in the future. The recurring nature of these fires has raised concerns about environmental negligence and the effectiveness of the local administration in protecting natural resources.

In related news, a forest fire in the Lower Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has persisted for five days without being extinguished, highlighting the challenges faced in combating such fires. Similarly, a fire broke out in the hilly terrain of Karak, threatening not only the trees and valuable shrubs but also the wildlife that inhabits these woods.

Furthermore, a wildfire erupted again at Margalla Hills National Park in Islamabad on Friday, exacerbated by severe heatwave conditions in the region. The fire began near Kalenjar village and quickly spread across the Margalla Hills. Upon receiving information, CDA officials promptly arrived at the scene to combat the blaze, but the persistent heatwave conditions have made containment efforts challenging.

The repeated occurrences of these wildfires emphasize the urgent need for improved fire management strategies, better resource allocation for firefighting efforts, and proactive measures to protect these vital ecosystems from future incidents.
