university student was tragically killed in Karachi after attempting to prevent a robbery

Karachi: Tragedy struck on Monday night as a courageous university student, fighting against a robbery attempt in the Korangi area, tragically lost their life.

According to rescue sources, a heart-wrenching event unfolded in Korangi’s Allah Wala Town neighborhood, where Laraib, a diligent private university student, tragically became a victim. Laraib’s father, Muhammad Hussain, shared that his son had ventured out for his gym routine and was also passionately working on an accounting book. The valuable data of his literary endeavor was stored in his cell phone, which prompted him to bravely resist the robbery attempt. The victim’s father passionately recounts how his son, Laraib, was not only dedicated to his fitness journey by going to the gym but also had a remarkable talent for accounting, diligently working on his book. With a bright future ahead, Laraib was excitedly preparing for his upcoming marriage in 2025. Laraib’s brother, Shahzaib, revealed that he was engrossed in writing a book on Basic Accounting. Expressing disappointment over the inadequacy of the law enforcement agencies, Shahzaib lamented that they had failed to curb the rising number of dacoity incidents in the city. As per the police report, Laraib was confronted by two suspects on his way back from the gym, resulting in a bullet wound near his eye, ultimately leading to his tragic demise.

Upon examining the scene, the police discovered an empty 30-bore pistol bullet shell, but no mobile device was found in proximity to the victim. The investigation continues, as stated by the authorities. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi, Hassan Sardar, hypothesized that Laraib may have attempted to apprehend the culprits. According to SSP Sardar, the assailant fired only once, striking Laraib near his eye, which proved to be fatal. The police are in close contact with the family and are working diligently to apprehend the perpetrator, while also reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings for potential leads.

In a related event, Bilal Nasir, a 21-year-old engineering student at NED University, was tragically killed in Karachi in December 2022. His death occurred when he attempted to resist two robbers who sought to steal his mobile phone. Following this incident, Additional Inspector General of Police Jawed Alam Odho advised Karachi residents against resisting robbers on December 17, 2022. This recommendation came in the wake of Bilal’s fatal encounter while defending himself against a mugging.
