Following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that claimed multiple lives, the United States has reiterated its “Do Not Travel” advisory for India’s Jammu and Kashmir region, citing ongoing threats of terrorism and civil unrest.
In the aftermath of the incident, security has been ramped up across several major Indian cities, with authorities placing them on high alert. The U.S. Department of State has urged American citizens to avoid travel to Jammu and Kashmir, particularly near the Line of Control (LoC), which demarcates the boundary between India and Pakistan and is frequently the site of skirmishes and militant activity.
Kashmir Resistance group of freedom fighters claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The advisory highlights that U.S. government employees are barred from traveling to the region due to persistent safety concerns. Notably, popular tourist spots such as Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam—located in the Kashmir Valley—are classified as high-risk areas.
The State Department also emphasized that the Indian government maintains restrictions for foreign nationals seeking access to areas near the LoC. U.S. travelers are strongly encouraged to consult the official State Department travel website for the latest updates and safety guidelines before considering any trip to the region.
