Tragic Road Accident in Neelum Valley: Six Dead, Seven Injured After Jeep Plunges Into River

At least six people, including women and children, were killed and seven others injured in a tragic road accident in the Taobat area of the Neelum Valley district.

The accident occurred when a jeep carrying 23 people from Kail to Taobat plunged into the river after the driver lost control of the vehicle, according to police. As a result, all the passengers inside were submerged in the river. Local rescuers later retrieved the bodies, the official added.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was swept away by the river’s strong current, complicating efforts for rescue teams to locate and recover it. Despite the challenging conditions, rescue efforts are ongoing to recover more bodies from the river. The strong currents and the remote location of the accident site have posed significant challenges to the rescue teams, who are working tirelessly to ensure that all victims are accounted for.

In a separate incident last week, at least seven people were killed and six others injured when a van plunged into a deep ravine near Swat’s Malam Jabba. According to police reports, the van, which was carrying 12 staff members of a local hotel, fell into the gorge while negotiating a sharp turn. The accident resulted in the immediate death of seven people and left six others critically injured.

These incidents highlight the dangerous conditions on some of Pakistan’s rural roads, where sharp turns and inadequate safety measures often lead to tragic accidents. Authorities are urged to implement stricter safety protocols, improve road conditions, and enhance driver training programs to prevent such disasters in the future.

Rescue operations continue as communities mourn the loss of their loved ones, emphasizing the need for enhanced emergency response capabilities in these remote areas. The government and local authorities must prioritize road safety and emergency preparedness to safeguard lives.
