Terrorist Attack
Seven Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed, and two others were injured in a tragic terrorist attack in Central Kurram on Sunday.
The ambush occurred in the Pastuni area, under the jurisdiction of Chanar Khel Police Station, marking another violent incident in the region, which has witnessed a rise in militant activity in recent months.
According to police sources, the attack targeted a patrol team from FC 154 Wing, which was conducting routine surveillance in the area.
As the patrol neared a seasonal river, armed terrorists launched a coordinated assault, surrounding the FC team from all sides.
The sudden and intense gunfire led to the immediate deaths of seven FC personnel, while two others sustained injuries in the attack.
The fallen soldiers have been identified as Naik Jalal, Arif, Wahdat, Imran, Mustafa, Javed, and Sepoy Owais. The injured personnel were quickly transported to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Thal for medical treatment.
Efforts to retrieve the bodies of the martyred soldiers were also initiated promptly, though the remote and difficult terrain of Central Kurram added to the challenges faced by the rescue teams.
This attack is part of a disturbing pattern of rising terrorist activities in Central Kurram. Located near the border regions of Khyber and Orakzai districts, the area has seen an increase in violent incidents over the past several months, raising concerns among local authorities and security forces.
The strategic location of Central Kurram, close to Afghanistan, has made it vulnerable to cross-border militancy and insurgent operations, further complicating the security situation.
Security forces have since launched a search operation in the surrounding areas to apprehend the attackers.
Authorities have expressed their commitment to ensuring the safety of the region but acknowledged the growing challenges posed by such coordinated terrorist actions.
The tragic loss of seven brave FC personnel has sent shockwaves across the country, sparking renewed calls for enhanced security measures and a stronger counter-terrorism strategy to curb the increasing violence in the region.
