ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the Supreme Court took suo motu notice of a letter from judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) claiming interference by intelligence agencies in judicial affairs, despite the government establishing a commission to investigate the issue.
Led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, a seven-member bench will convene for the initial hearing on Wednesday.
The bench includes Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Mussarat Hilali, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.
The notice comes soon after the government announced a judicial commission led by Justice (r) Tassaduq Hussain Jilani to probe the allegations made by the IHC judges.
The commission had been formed after CJP Isa and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Azam Tarar.
Prior to the meeting, a full court meeting took place in the Supreme Court as well.
However, over 300 lawyers across the country had asked the SC to take suo motu notice of the matter under Article 184(3) calling it a matter of public importance.
