ISLAMABAD: According to a journalist, PTI founder Imran Khan desires his wife Bushra Bibi to become prime minister if he cannot hold the position himself. This issue is one of the core issues in talks with the establishment.
“Khan wants to make Bushra Bibi PM,” Javed Chaudhry stated in an interview with Shaukat Piracha on his show Rubaroo aired on Aaj News on Thursday.
Chaudhry was responding to a question about the ongoing dialogue between the government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. While Khan’s party has expressed willingness to engage in talks, they have insisted on engaging only with “genuine stakeholders” and have criticized the government as “pygmies”.
The government, however, has maintained that PTI is not serious about talks and has vowed to punish those responsible for the May 9 riots.
Chaudhry explained that PTI is divided into two groups: one comprising old party leaders and the other consisting of new leaders, particularly lawyers.
He claimed Khan is keen on retaining the new leaders as he needs them to fight his legal battles. Additionally, some PTI leaders have been engaging with the establishment without Khan’s approval.
He suggested that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is seeking the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and questioned why he would engage in talks where individuals like Gohar Khan or Omar Ayub would become PM while he remains in Adiala Jail.
Chaudhry proposed implementing an “army system” nationwide, citing the army’s “meritorious” cadet recruitment process as an example where not even the army chief can interfere.
He predicted that more cases related to the May 9 riots would be filed against Nawaz Sharif, and courts would not provide him relief before legislative action is taken.
Chaudhry also claimed that the PTI is double-minded, staying away from the May 9 events while simultaneously giving tickets to suspects of the riots. He mentioned the likelihood of forming a judicial commission, though he believed PTI would reject it due to issues with the judge, report, and investigation.
According to Chaudhry, talks between PTI and the government are expected to take place next year, with technocrats like Irfan Siddiqui, Shibli Faraz, and Azam Nazeer Tarar representing the government in discussions with PTI.
