ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle has launched an investigation into YouTuber Hasan Iqbal following a complaint filed by the Punjab Commission on the Status of Women. The complaint was prompted by a viral video where Hasan Iqbal Chishti made disparaging remarks against girls’ education, alleging inappropriate behavior and condemning parents who send their daughters to school.
The video titled “Othy Dance Kardi Payi Ae” sparked outrage on social media, drawing condemnation from various quarters including Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar of the National Commission for Women’s Dignity. Bakhtiar expressed deep dismay over the video’s content, describing it as intolerable and calling for stringent action against its creators and distributors.
Chairperson Bakhtiar urged the Cyber Crime FIA to swiftly investigate the matter and ensure that those responsible face legal consequences. She also emphasized the immediate removal of all content demeaning girls’ education from social media platforms under the supervision of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
“This incident, occurring so closely after our National Conference for Women’s Education, is deeply troubling,” remarked Chairperson Bakhtiar. “Denying girls and women their fundamental right to education contradicts the principles enshrined in our Constitution.”
Bakhtiar further called upon the Council of Islamic Ideology to unequivocally condemn Hasan Iqbal Chishti’s actions, stressing the importance of religious scholars speaking out against regressive attitudes that undermine educational rights for girls and women.
Chairperson Bakhtiar’s remarks underscored the urgency of addressing societal attitudes that hinder educational opportunities for girls. She emphasized the need for comprehensive efforts from all sectors of society to promote and protect the right to education for girls, highlighting education as a cornerstone of progress and empowerment.
The investigation into Hasan Iqbal’s video represents a pivotal moment in upholding these principles, signaling a collective stance against discrimination and advocating for a future where every girl has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to society without prejudice or barriers.
