Fawad Chaudhry Released After Detention in Adiala Jail

Fawad Chaudhry

RAWALPINDI: Former federal minister for science and technology, Fawad Chaudhry, was released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi late Friday night, confirmed by his brother, Faisal Chaudhry.

This development follows a bail granted by a division bench of the Islamabad High Court on April 1 in a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case concerning land in Jhelum.

Fawad’s counsel, Qasir Imam, argued before the court that his client was accused of accepting a Rs5 million bribe from a citizen.

However, he emphasized that Fawad had never met the complainant and refuted the allegations.

The complaint led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against him. Earlier in the year, an accountability court in Islamabad had rejected Fawad Chaudhry’s bail plea in a corruption case related to misappropriation in construction projects in Jhelum.

This release from Adiala Jail comes amidst a backdrop of legal battles for the former federal minister.

Despite facing these legal challenges, Fawad Chaudhry and his group had previously announced a boycott of the general elections in 2024.

The granting of bail by the Islamabad High Court signals a temporary reprieve for Fawad Chaudhry as he navigates through the legal proceedings.

However, the outcome of the cases against him remains uncertain, and his future involvement in political activities may be influenced by the legal outcomes.

As Fawad Chaudhry steps out of Adiala Jail, he re-enters the public sphere with renewed attention on his legal battles and political stance.

The developments surrounding his case will continue to be closely monitored as they unfold in the coming days and weeks.
