Gate No 4 Politics
As the nation braces for the upcoming general election in 2024, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is intensifying his election campaign, distancing himself from what he refers to as “Gate No 4 politics.” In a recent address to a workers’ convention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district, Bilawal emphasized his reliance on the people to bring his party into power, rejecting divisive and TikTok-driven politics.
Expressing concern about the deteriorating economic conditions and the politics of abuse prevalent in the country, Bilawal asserted, “We don’t know the politics of Gate No 4. I trust the people; I will not look anywhere else; I will not ask for help from anyone, but only the people.” He claimed to be the only politician with “clean hands” and challenged the integrity of politicians in other parties.
With the approaching February 8, 2024, elections, political parties are actively engaging in rallies and meetings to strengthen their positions. The PPP, in contention with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has designated Bilawal as its choice for the prime minister’s position, while the PML-N presents Nawaz Sharif as its premiership candidate.
Despite Bilawal’s father, Asif Ali Zardari, characterizing him as “inexperienced” in a recent interview, the PPP remains steadfast in supporting Bilawal for the prime ministerial role. Bilawal, addressing the nation, pledged a commitment to clean governance, promising economic benefits and a doubling of salaries within five years.
Highlighting the challenges facing the nation, Bilawal called on the people to support him in efforts to “change the fate of Pakistan.” He criticized traditional politics centered on revenge and advocated for burying such practices. The scion of the Bhutto family positioned his battle not against “old politicians” but against poverty, unemployment, and inflation, affirming the PPP’s historical role in steering Pakistan out of crises.
