PML-N Expresses Concern Over PTI’s Social Media Dominance

Social Media Dominance

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is expressing apprehension about the growing dominance of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on social media platforms. Despite this concern, PML-N leaders emphasize that the impact of social media may not significantly influence the upcoming polls, which they assert will be determined on the ground.

PML-N leader Saad Rafique acknowledged the PTI’s significant investment in social media over the past 15 years, admitting that the PML-N lagged behind in this aspect. However, Rafique stressed that the dynamics of cyberspace differ from those on the streets where elections will be held, asserting the PML-N’s readiness for the ground-level contest.

The PML-N has recently bolstered its presence on social media, hiring a considerable number of journalists to counter the PTI’s influence online. Deputy Secretary General Attaullah Tarar previously highlighted the “lethal propaganda” on social media, specifically targeting the popularity of PTI leader Imran Khan and the perceived unpopularity of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.

Saad Rafique emphasized the importance of holding timely elections, pointing out that Senate polls were scheduled for March. He expressed confidence that the economy would stabilize once a new government took charge after the elections.

Addressing potential seat adjustments with Jehangir Khan Tareen’s Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party, Rafique stated that no decision had been made yet.

Meanwhile, the PML-N welcomed several so-called electables and former lawmakers from Jhang and other areas into its fold. PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah, during a press conference, voiced concerns about PTI’s chairman, Gohar Ali Khan, allegedly fielding May 9 suspects in the polls. Sanaullah urged separation of these suspects from the party to face prosecution.

Former Punjab Assembly Speaker Dost Mazari formally announced his joining of the PML-N during this period. Sanaullah also addressed PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s desire to make the 18th Amendment a campaign issue, suggesting potential additions to the amendment.
