ATC Extends Judicial Remand for PTI Activists Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza in Vandalism Case

LAHORE: In an update from Lahore, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) has decided to extend the judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza in connection to a vandalism case at Shadman police station.

The ATC has granted a 14-day extension to their judicial remand, directing the authorities to present both PTI activists on March 11 for further proceedings.

Earlier, Sanam Javed, a PTI activist, was arrested in another case shortly after being granted bail by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). The initial bail was related to a case involving the alleged setting on fire of the PML-N office, and Sanam Javed had secured bail against surety bonds of Rs200,000.

Sanam Javed is entangled in several legal cases, including those related to the Zaman Town vandalism, the PML-N house fire, the Race-course police station case, and others.

These legal issues stem from the events that unfolded on May 9, triggering riots across Pakistan after the arrest of the former prime minister and PTI founder from the premises of the Islamabad High Court.

The May 9 events led to widespread protests and violent clashes across the country, with PTI workers expressing their discontent following the arrest of their chairman. The situation escalated, prompting calls for the armed forces to intervene and maintain law and order.

Instances of violence included attacks on army installations and the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore, with reports indicating that Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Ali Nasir Rizvi sustained severe injuries during the efforts to restore order.
