Arrest Warrant
ISLAMABAD: A session court in Islamabad took a significant step on Wednesday by suspending the arrest warrant for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Javed.
The court proceedings aimed at declaring Javed an absconder were halted, and the arrest warrant was suspended during the hearing before senior civil judge Qudratullah.
Faisal Javed, accompanied by his counsel Sardar Masroof and others, appeared before the court, marking a development in the legal proceedings. Additionally, the court scheduled the indictment of Faisal Javed for the next hearing on March 13.
This legal maneuver comes after Faisal Javed had secured transit bail from the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on February 19. The PTI leader had been in hiding for months following the events of May 9, 2023, when military installations, including the Corps Commander House in Lahore, were attacked following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The PHC granted transit bail to Faisal Javed against bonds worth Rs100,000, directing him to appear before the relevant court.
Speaking to journalists outside the court, Javed expressed joy over being granted bail and remarked on the unprecedented voter turnout on February 8, describing it as a historic event in the country.
The situation has unfolded against the backdrop of a broader crackdown on PTI, leading to several party leaders either going into hiding or facing imprisonment following the events of May 9.
As the legal proceedings continue, the suspension of the arrest warrant for Faisal Javed marks a noteworthy development in the ongoing legal challenges faced by PTI members.
The court’s decision to suspend the arrest warrant adds a layer of complexity to the political and legal landscape in Pakistan.
