Jamaat-e-Islami Stages Sit-in Outside Kyrgyzstan Embassy in Retaliation to Student Violence

The Jamaat-e-Islami party organized a sit-in outside the Kyrgyzstan embassy in Islamabad over the weekend following disturbing reports of Pakistani students in Bishkek facing mob violence.

A significant gathering of protesters congregated outside the embassy, prompting additional police presence to ensure the safety of diplomats. Barbed wire fencing was installed around the embassy premises by the police.

The sit-in concluded after a letter of protest was delivered to the embassy through law enforcement channels. The protesters warned of potential further demonstrations involving families if their demands were not addressed. Reports indicate that the dispersal of the protesters was peaceful.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, strongly denounced the violence targeting Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan. He expressed deep concern, stating, “Our children in Kyrgyzstan are under attack, and regrettably, we have received reports of some students losing their lives.”

There were also indications of potential protests in Karachi.

Rehman further revealed that he had personally contacted a student in Kyrgyzstan to assess the situation. “The current circumstances are extremely worrying, and as per the students’ feedback, the response from the embassy has been unsatisfactory,” he conveyed, urging the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to recognize the gravity of the situation. “The safety of our students is paramount; immediate measures must be taken to ensure their security and well-being,” he emphasized.
