A devastating incident unfolded in Balochistan’s Harnai district when a mine collapsed following an explosion, resulting in eighteen miners becoming trapped underground. The situation spurred immediate rescue efforts to free the miners from the perilous depths beneath the earth’s surface.
Abdul Ghani, the Chief Inspector of Mines in Balochistan, disclosed that the collapse occurred in the Zard Alu area of Harnai, initially ensnaring ten miners due to the accumulation of gas.
Despite swift response measures, the number of trapped miners has since risen to 18, prompting the dispatch of two specialized rescue teams from Shahrigh and Quetta to assist in the ongoing operation. However, despite the concerted endeavors of the rescue teams, the miners remain trapped underground, underscoring the challenging nature of the rescue mission.
This tragic incident sheds a glaring light on the unsafe working conditions prevalent in Balochistan’s coal mines, where an estimated 100,000 workers labor amidst inadequate safety measures. The region boasts over 3000 operational coal mines, exposing miners to continual life-threatening hazards.
Unfortunately, such accidents claim the lives of over a hundred miners annually. This grim reality emphasizes the urgent need for comprehensive safety protocols and heightened vigilance within the mining industry to prevent future tragedies and ensure the well-being of workers.
