The investigation into Laiba Ijaz’s death has taken a new turn after the main accused, Muhammad Noman, died during a police operation in Islamabad. Police said armed men opened fire on the team transporting him for recovery, leaving Noman injured before he succumbed to his wounds.
According to police, the incident occurred within the limits of Ramna police station while officers were taking Noman to a location for recovery based on his identification. Four men riding two motorcycles allegedly launched the attack in an apparent attempt to free him from custody.
The police team escaped unharmed because officers wore bulletproof jackets and followed precautionary measures. Meanwhile, authorities launched a search operation to identify and arrest the attackers and their alleged accomplices.
What Happened to the Main Accused in the Laiba Ijaz Case?
Muhammad Noman was the main accused in the case involving Laiba Ijaz, a gold medallist from the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). Laiba reportedly died by suicide after allegedly losing Rs9 million in a fraud involving promises of educational opportunities in the United States.
Investigators had linked Noman to the case, which involved allegations that he defrauded Laiba by promising to facilitate her education abroad. However, his death during the police operation has added a new development to the investigation.
Police are now searching for the men who allegedly attacked the team transporting Noman. Their identities and whereabouts were not immediately established in the available details.
Separate Mansehra Fraud Case Uncovered
Meanwhile, investigators have also uncovered details of another alleged fraud case registered against Noman in Mansehra. According to sources, Noman and his alleged accomplices reportedly defrauded a family of Rs8.5 million by promising government jobs for six children.
The suspects allegedly gave the family appointment letters that appeared to confirm the promised jobs. However, verification later revealed that the documents were forged, according to the available information.
Following the alleged fraud, the affected family registered a case against Noman and his alleged accomplices. Sources said Noman subsequently went into hiding after the case was registered.
A court later declared him a proclaimed offender, according to the sources. The separate case added another set of fraud allegations against the accused, beyond the investigation into Laiba Ijaz’s death.
Police Search Continues After Attack
The immediate focus remains on identifying those responsible for opening fire on the police team in Islamabad. Investigators are pursuing the suspects and their alleged accomplices as the search operation continues.
The attack occurred while police were carrying out recovery proceedings based on Noman’s identification. His death has brought a new development to the Laiba Ijaz case, while the search for the attackers remains underway.
