A 28-year-old woman, Ayesha Bibi, reportedly died by suicide at her sister’s residence in Lahore’s Iqbal Town on Thursday, amid reported financial difficulties. Police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the incident occurred in Neelum Block near Number Stop, where Ayesha had been staying with her sister. Initial reports suggest that financial hardship had placed considerable pressure on her life.
Ayesha had married a man named Rashid approximately five years ago. However, she later sought khula, or the dissolution of her marriage, reportedly because of financial difficulties. She subsequently moved into her sister’s home and continued to face economic challenges while working at a small private company.
Police Investigate Circumstances Surrounding Woman’s Death
Police have recorded statements from Ayesha’s family members as part of the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, forensic experts collected evidence from the scene to help determine the circumstances of the incident.
Authorities shifted her body to a hospital for a post-mortem examination. In addition, investigators sent her mobile phone for forensic analysis to examine potentially relevant information.
Police said the post-mortem findings and mobile phone data could help clarify the events leading to her death. However, the investigation remains underway, and officials have yet to establish all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Previous Incidents Highlight Financial and Domestic Pressures
The incident comes amid other reported cases in Punjab involving severe financial hardship and domestic pressures. However, each case has its own circumstances and requires a separate investigation.
In an earlier incident in Sheikhupura, a 48-year-old woman, Shazia Imran, reportedly shot her two children before dying by suicide. Her eight-year-old son, Ahsan Imran, died, while her seven-year-old daughter, Tayyaba, sustained injuries.
According to police, the incident occurred on Ghang Road. Local residents reportedly said the family faced financial difficulties, while the children’s father worked as a driver.
Residents also claimed the shooting followed a request by the children for money to buy snacks. Authorities investigated the incident and its surrounding circumstances.
Police Cite Poverty and Domestic Pressure in Lahore Triple Murder
In another case in Lahore’s Ichhra area, three young siblings were found murdered inside their home. Senior police officials reportedly identified poverty and domestic pressure as key factors in the case.
A police investigation officer said the family of seven lived in a small rented flat. The husband reportedly earned around Rs30,000 per month, making it difficult to cover basic household expenses.
The officer also described alleged pressure on the wife to seek financial assistance from her parents, who were themselves struggling financially. Furthermore, investigators cited tensions involving the woman’s mother-in-law and alleged verbal abuse by her husband.
Police said the accused woman also described severe domestic pressure and alleged mistreatment. Investigators examined these claims as part of the case.
Meanwhile, the investigation into Ayesha Bibi’s death continues, with police awaiting forensic findings and the post-mortem report to establish further details.
