Lahore Traffic Police has announced stricter penalties for 21 serious traffic violations. Offenders will now face criminal cases instead of routine traffic fines.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi announced the decision on Thursday. The initiative aims to prevent dangerous driving and improve road safety across Lahore.
Which Traffic Violations Will Lead to FIRs?
Under the new enforcement policy, police will register First Information Reports (FIRs) against drivers involved in serious offences.
These include wrong-way driving, reckless speeding, dangerous overtaking, drifting, and driving in a zigzag manner.
Motorists who block roads or drive negligently may also face criminal charges.
Authorities will also take action against drivers who use unauthorized police-style flashing lights, blue lights, or green number plates.
Furthermore, drivers who alter, conceal, or tamper with vehicle registration plates will face legal consequences.
Lahore Police Warn Drivers Against Dangerous Behaviour
CTO Shirazi emphasized that dangerous driving threatens human lives and cannot be treated as a minor offence.
He said police would no longer rely solely on fines for violations that create serious public safety risks.
The department aims to discourage repeated offences and improve compliance with traffic laws.
New Rules Aim to Reduce Road Accidents
The announcement follows ongoing traffic enforcement campaigns across Lahore.
Earlier, authorities intensified action against underage drivers, unlicensed motorists, and individuals performing dangerous vehicle stunts.
Police have also encouraged citizens to report reckless driving through available complaint channels.
The new measures reflect growing concerns about traffic accidents and unsafe driving practices.
Motorists should follow speed limits, respect traffic signs, and maintain proper vehicle registration documents.
Authorities hope stricter enforcement will reduce accidents and protect pedestrians, passengers, and other road users.
