A Lahore court has discharged a man accused of assaulting a petrol station worker after both parties reached a compromise. Judicial Magistrate Ali Amjid ordered the suspect’s release on Saturday after the complainant told the court that he did not want to pursue the case further.
The incident occurred at a petrol station in Jubilee Town, where the suspect had arrived to refuel his vehicle. According to the complaint, the worker asked him not to smoke on the premises, prompting the suspect to allegedly leave his SUV and assault him before fleeing.
CCTV Footage Leads to Suspect’s Arrest
Police arrested the suspect after CCTV footage of the incident circulated widely on social media. The footage attracted public attention and prompted discussions about the treatment of petrol station employees.
Subsequently, Chung police presented the suspect before the court and requested 10 days of physical remand for further investigation. However, the proceedings took a different turn when the complainant informed the magistrate that both parties had resolved the dispute.
The petrol station worker described the incident as a misunderstanding and confirmed that he had reached a settlement with the accused. He also told the court that he did not wish to continue the legal proceedings.
Court Orders Release Following Compromise
After hearing the complainant’s statement, Judicial Magistrate Ali Amjid rejected the police request for physical remand and discharged the suspect from the case. The court subsequently ordered his release following the compromise between the parties.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had reacted strongly to the incident after the suspect’s arrest. She shared a video related to the case and criticised individuals who allegedly use wealth or influence to mistreat less privileged people.
The chief minister emphasised that wealth, social status and political connections should not place anyone above the law. Her remarks drew attention to concerns about workplace safety and the treatment of workers serving customers.
The case has now taken a new direction following the settlement. The court’s decision came after the complainant formally expressed his unwillingness to pursue further proceedings against the accused.
