The Punjab government has announced another major change to the Basant 2027 schedule. The popular kite-flying festival will now take place from March 12 to 14, 2027.
The provincial cabinet approved the new dates, replacing the earlier 10-day celebration planned for January 29 to February 7.
Punjab Government Approves New Basant Dates
According to reports, Lahore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz proposed changing the festival schedule.
He submitted the proposal to the Punjab Home Department, which forwarded it to the provincial cabinet.
The cabinet approved the revised three-day schedule.
Earlier, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had announced extended celebrations to promote Punjab’s cultural heritage.
However, the latest decision reduces the festival from 10 days to three.
Strict Kite-Flying Rules Announced
Authorities have introduced safety restrictions for the upcoming celebrations.
The Lahore administration will permit kite flying only on March 12, 13 and 14.
Officials have banned metallic, chemical-coated and sharp kite strings because of their safety risks.
Participants must use approved kite sizes and cotton strings.
Meanwhile, kite manufacturers and sellers must follow registration and licensing requirements.
Lahore Prepares for Basant Celebrations
Authorities are preparing cultural activities and public safety arrangements for the festival.
Officials plan to improve decorations across roads, parks and public spaces.
The government also aims to promote Lahore’s traditional culture through the celebrations.
Basant returned to Lahore in February 2026 after a prolonged ban over public safety concerns.
The revised schedule highlights the government’s efforts to balance cultural celebrations with public protection.
