Pakistan’s security forces have repelled an attempted infiltration along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Kurram district, killing 12 militants and Afghan Taliban personnel, according to the military’s media wing. The clash also claimed the life of a Pakistani soldier, while security forces launched a clearance operation to eliminate remaining militants in the area.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the incident occurred when troops detected a group attempting to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan on Sunday.
Security Forces Foil Infiltration Attempt in Kurram
According to the ISPR, security forces detected the movement of militants attempting to enter Pakistani territory from across the border. Troops responded to the infiltration attempt, killing 12 members of the Fitna al-Khawarij group and Afghan Taliban personnel during the engagement.
The military’s media wing also stated that Afghan Taliban posts opened fire in support of the attempted infiltration. Consequently, a heavy exchange of fire took place along the border as Pakistani forces responded to the threat.
The ISPR described the incident as an attempted cross-border infiltration and said security forces had taken action against those involved.
Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman Martyred in Exchange of Fire
The exchange of fire also resulted in the martyrdom of Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman, according to the ISPR. He was 40 years old and belonged to Ghizer district.
His death came during the engagement between Pakistani security forces and the infiltrating group. The military acknowledged the sacrifices of its personnel in defending the country’s borders against security threats.
ISPR Accuses Afghan Taliban Government of Failing to Prevent Terrorism
The ISPR criticised the Afghan Taliban government, alleging that it had failed to prevent terrorist organisations from operating on Afghan territory.
The military’s media wing further accused Afghan authorities of facilitating and supporting cross-border terrorism. It also said the authorities had repeatedly failed to fulfil their international counter-terrorism obligations.
These statements reflect the Pakistani military’s position regarding the security situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Clearance Operation Continues in the Area
Following the clash, security forces launched a clearance operation to locate and eliminate other militants in the area. The ISPR described the remaining militants as being backed by India.
The military said Pakistan’s security forces remained determined to protect the country’s territorial integrity and prevent militant infiltration across the border.
Furthermore, the ISPR reaffirmed that security operations would continue under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative to combat what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism.
The military also stressed that the sacrifices of security personnel strengthened Pakistan’s resolve to counter terrorism and defend its borders. Meanwhile, the ongoing clearance operation aims to address any remaining threats in the affected area.
