Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has warned that the PTI’s long march will not be allowed to proceed beyond Attock.
Kundi made the remarks on Tuesday as the PTI-led protest convoy continued its journey toward Islamabad. The march is being led by KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and seeks to pressure the government over political demands, including the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Kundi Warns PTI Against Crossing Attock
Speaking to Geo News, Kundi said PTI did not have the capacity to take the march beyond Attock. He challenged the party to demonstrate the public support it claims to have.
Kundi also criticised the KP government for focusing on the Islamabad march while the province continues to face serious security challenges.
He questioned what security arrangements the PTI had put in place to screen participants and prevent possible incidents during the march.
Governor Raises Security and Political Concerns
Kundi also criticised the PTI-led provincial government over its response to terrorism. He said the federal and provincial authorities needed greater cooperation to address militancy in KP.
The governor referred to his recent discussions with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. According to Kundi, the talks covered the security situation, dialogue with PTI and the way forward regarding the march.
The federal government has repeatedly warned that the PTI march will not be allowed to enter Islamabad. Talks between the government and opposition have also failed to resolve the dispute.
Governor’s Rule Remains a Possibility
Kundi said Governor’s Rule could be implemented if the president and prime minister considered it necessary.
The issue has intensified tensions between the federal government and the PTI-led KP administration. The government has previously discussed emergency measures and Governor’s Rule amid concerns over security and the continuing political confrontation.
