Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have pledged coordinated efforts to eliminate terrorism and restore lasting peace across the province. Both leaders made the commitment during the first meeting of the provincial Apex Committee in Peshawar on Monday.
Kundi stressed that security would remain the government’s foremost priority, even if authorities had to sacrifice development projects. Meanwhile, Naqvi assured the provincial administration of full federal support and called for stronger cooperation among all relevant institutions.
Security Forces To Receive Additional Support
Addressing the meeting, Kundi said the government would take decisive measures to tackle militancy and extremism. He also warned that officials who failed to deliver results could face replacement, emphasising accountability and improved administrative performance.
The governor stressed that police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) needed adequate resources to combat terrorism effectively. Therefore, authorities would focus on strengthening law enforcement agencies, improving coordination and ensuring that security personnel received the equipment and manpower required for their duties.
Naqvi also pledged to provide modern weapons and other necessary resources to the provincial police. He maintained that the federal government would fulfil its responsibilities, while the provincial administration must take the lead in tackling terrorism.
Apex Committee Calls For Coordinated Measures
The committee reviewed the province’s security situation and directed relevant departments to take effective, intelligence-based measures against militant activities. It also reaffirmed that all available resources would support efforts to improve law and order and establish sustainable peace.
Furthermore, participants discussed longstanding challenges affecting education, healthcare and living standards in underdeveloped and terrorism-affected districts. The meeting emphasised the need to improve public services alongside security measures.
Kundi reiterated that the government expected practical results rather than symbolic actions. He also stressed that all institutions must work towards shared objectives to protect citizens and restore public confidence.
The meeting followed the recent imposition of governor’s rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The new administrative setup has placed renewed focus on security coordination, institutional accountability and efforts to address militancy across the province.
