Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has prepared a proposed action plan featuring 206 measures across 27 government departments, with a focus on stability and improved public services. The plan would cover a period of 100 to 180 days, targeting law and order, administrative reforms and economic development across the province, including its merged districts.
The proposals span roads, healthcare, education, youth employment, energy and minerals. They also aim to improve government performance, restore neglected public facilities and expand essential services in urban and rural areas.
Roads, Drainage and Urban Facilities Targeted
The proposed plan includes repairing around 1,150 major roads, covering 8,000 open manholes and improving cleanliness at 4,000 locations. It also calls for reopening around 150 blocked drainage routes and restoring 80 parks.
Furthermore, authorities would beautify bazaars and urban buildings across districts while installing solar-powered lights along major highways. The plan also proposes improvements at Peshawar’s 20 busiest traffic points, alongside repairs to GT Road and unfinished sections of the Ring Road.
Other infrastructure proposals include constructing or improving the Bannu Bypass and restoring non-functional water supply schemes. The plan also seeks to improve sports grounds and introduce round-the-clock services at selected basic health centres.
Healthcare Reforms Focus on Medicines and Staff Attendance
The health sector proposals aim to improve access to essential medicines and strengthen healthcare services. These include immunisation at basic health centres and round-the-clock facilities at 250 centres.
The plan also targets at least 80% availability of essential medicines. In addition, digital monitoring would track the attendance of doctors, nurses, support staff and other healthcare workers.
These measures aim to address shortages and improve service delivery, although the proposals still require implementation.
Education Plan Covers 1,500 Schools
Education reforms would focus on improving 1,500 schools across the province. The plan also seeks to address furniture shortages affecting approximately 700,000 students.
Moreover, authorities have proposed transferring low-performing schools to the private sector. They also aim to reopen destroyed or non-functional schools in the merged districts.
The proposals include expanding Rescue 1122 services in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, potentially improving emergency response coverage in the region.
Youth Employment, Skills and Business Support
The action plan proposes interest-free loans and technical training to help young people develop skills and pursue employment opportunities. It also includes employment-linked training programmes and youth centres in government buildings.
Additionally, officials have proposed sports competitions and support for business and research projects at universities. These initiatives aim to expand opportunities for young people and encourage entrepreneurship.
Solar Energy and Mining Sector Measures
Under the energy proposals, 65,000 households would receive concessional financial support for solar home systems. The initiative would particularly target widows and disadvantaged households.
Meanwhile, the minerals sector proposals include medical check-ups for miners, technical training and digital mining records. Authorities also propose establishing mine-accident response centres in Kohat, Abbottabad and Buner.
What Will the KP Action Plan Be Called?
Officials have discussed several possible names for the initiative, including Stable Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 180-Day Strategic Action Plan.
The proposed framework also involved meetings and visits by provincial government representatives, a former senator and interior minister, departmental advisers and government officials. However, the available details describe proposed measures rather than confirmed completion targets.
If implemented, the plan would cover a wide range of public services and development priorities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Its progress will depend on how authorities translate the proposals into action during the planned period.
