The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced plans to purchase two helicopters to improve disaster relief and rescue operations across the province.
KP Law Minister Aftab Alam shared the decision during a session of the provincial assembly on Tuesday.
The announcement came after lawmakers raised questions about the government’s preparedness for future emergencies.
Assembly Raises Concerns Over Rescue Facilities
During the session, KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem questioned the progress of relief measures announced after the Swat River tragedy.
The speaker asked whether the provincial government had purchased large drones for rescue activities as previously planned.
He also highlighted the loss of the provincial helicopter during flood relief operations in Bajaur.
Moreover, Babar Saleem questioned whether the government had enough resources to replace the damaged helicopter and maintain emergency response capabilities.
Government Plans to Expand Emergency Resources
Responding to the concerns, Law Minister Aftab Alam informed the assembly that the provincial government would purchase two helicopters.
He said the new helicopters would support rescue missions, disaster management efforts, and emergency response operations.
The move aims to strengthen KP’s ability to respond quickly during natural disasters and other emergencies.
Furthermore, the decision comes as the province continues to face challenges from floods, landslides, and other weather-related incidents.
The government believes that additional aviation resources will help improve rescue efforts and provide faster assistance to affected communities.
