Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has announced a series of financial measures for the provincial police, including salary increases, recruitment and enhanced compensation for families of officers killed on duty. The package also introduces financial assistance for permanently disabled personnel and officers who lose close family members.
The announcement includes plans to fill 17,000 vacant police positions across the province. Additionally, compensation for families of martyred officers will vary according to rank, while senior officers’ families may receive substantial housing assistance.
KP Raises Compensation for Martyred Police Officers
Under the revised package, families of constables, head constables, assistant sub-inspectors, sub-inspectors and inspectors killed while serving will receive Rs17 million.
Meanwhile, families of deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and superintendents of police (SPs) will receive Rs25 million. The compensation for officers in grades 18 and 19 will rise to Rs30 million.
For officers in grade 20 and above, the compensation package will reach Rs35 million. These payments reflect different compensation levels based on the rank of the police personnel who die in service.
Senior Officers’ Families to Receive Housing Assistance
The governor also announced housing assistance of Rs70 million for families of officers in grade 20 and above who are martyred while serving.
Furthermore, the package replaces the previous arrangement of allocating residential plots with direct financial assistance for families of police personnel killed on duty. This change gives eligible families monetary support instead of land allotments.
The revised measures aim to expand financial assistance for families dealing with the loss of police officers. However, the announced compensation varies according to rank and the applicable eligibility criteria.
Financial Support for Injured Police Personnel
The package also covers officers who sustain injuries while performing their duties. Police personnel who suffer permanent disabilities will qualify for Rs5 million in compensation.
This provision adds financial assistance for officers whose injuries result in lasting disabilities. It forms part of the broader package covering personnel affected by the risks of police service.
Assistance for Officers Who Lose Close Family Members
Kundi also announced financial support for police personnel following the death of close relatives. Officers whose spouse or child dies will qualify for Rs5 million.
Meanwhile, the death of a parent, brother or sister will entitle an officer to Rs3 million in assistance. These provisions extend the package beyond service-related deaths and injuries.
Salary Increases and 17,000 Police Vacancies
Alongside the compensation measures, Kundi announced an increase in police salaries. He also confirmed plans to recruit personnel against 17,000 vacant positions in the provincial police force.
The proposed recruitment drive would address vacancies across the force, while the salary increase would provide additional financial support to serving personnel.
Together, the measures cover recruitment, pay and welfare assistance for police officers and their families. The package also sets out different compensation levels for martyred personnel, injured officers and families facing bereavement.
