The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has approved major changes to the provincial education curriculum from primary to intermediate level. The reforms mark the biggest curriculum overhaul in nearly two decades and will reduce subjects and teaching content.
Under the new system, officials will reduce the number of subjects taught at the primary level. Meanwhile, Classes 8 to 12 will also have fewer subjects, while individual courses will contain fewer lessons.
Curriculum Reforms Target Secondary Education
The Elementary and Secondary Education Department is implementing the reforms following directions from the provincial government. Officials have developed a revised curriculum to modernize teaching and reduce the overall academic burden on students.
The department has approved a new curriculum for Classes 9 to 12 as part of the reforms. Under the plan, students will study the national curriculum in eight key subjects across the secondary and higher secondary levels.
The subjects include English, Urdu, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics and General Science. The provided reforms also indicate that authorities will streamline course content across different education levels.
